The stunning 2023 Staglin Chardonnay showcases the astonishing potential of our Estate vineyard in an extraordinary vintage. Fully mature flavors are balanced by charming acidity, thrilling minerality, and unwavering texture. Fragrant yellow flowers and baked pear spill from the glass with a swirl. At first taste, bright waves of lemon zest and golden apple rise to greet the palate before revealing subtle and layered notes of fresh baked bread, hints of mango, and struck rock. Knit together with supportive but nearly imperceptible oak, this wide-ranging diversity of flavors sings from start to finish and is certain to prove itself a classic.
The phenomenal 2023 growing season was one of the longest in recent history. An extended winter with evenly spaced rain replenished soil moisture and provided vines some beneficial rest. Temperate weather throughout bud break, bloom, and set allowed for healthy canopy growth and cluster formation. Moving into summer, conditions remained mild and provided full maturity of flavor without excess sugar loading. Harvest commenced weeks later than usual and ultimately crafted the building blocks for wines of unprecedented balance.
