The 2023 Staglin Cabernet embodies the graceful elegance and effortless composure of the vintage. Chocolate covered cherry, lavender flower, ground coffee, and warm spice aromatics rise from the glass. The palate opens with a bright burst of black cherry accented by a subtle herbal lift before unfurling layers of fresh fig, grilled lamb and delicate hints of crushed thyme, cedar resin, and vanilla. A silky, finely woven texture frames the complexity of flavors and pulls the wine through an exceptionally long, refined finish. The measured growing season allowed for harvesting at peak flavor development setting the stage for decades of graceful evolution in the cellar.

The phenomenal 2023 growing season was one of the longest in recent history. An extended winter with evenly spaced rain replenished soil moisture and provided vines some beneficial rest. Temperate weather throughout bud break, bloom, and set allowed for healthy canopy growth and cluster formation. Moving into summer, conditions remained mild and provided full maturity of flavor without excess sugar loading. Harvest commenced weeks later than usual and ultimately crafted the building blocks for wines of unprecedented balance.
