Great wines begin with great vineyards and at Staglin Family Vineyard we are fortunate to have the most dedicated and meticulous caretakers of our estate. Under the leadership of David Abreu, our vinyeard crew spends each day nurturing the vines to cultivate optimal ripeness and complexity out of each cluster. Many of the crew, including our foreman, have been working with this property for over twenty years. This devotion yields invaluable experience and knowledge which are an integral component to the quality of our wines.
David Abreu is a third generation native of the Napa Valley. David grew up in Rutherford, California in a family with farming interests. Starting at an early age, David worked during the summers at Inglenook and Caymus Vineyard. As time passed, his interests focused on viticulture and ultimately he began to farm and manage several properties on his own. In 1980 he founded David Abreu Vineyard Management, Inc.
Since the beginning, David Abreu has been an integral member of the Staglin Family Vineyard team, managing the vineyard operations and participating in our blending trials. His consistent leadership, world class farming practices, intimate knowledge of the land and superb palate has contributed to the Staglin Family Vineyard wines for over 25 years.
Under the guidance of David Abreu, our foreman Richard Villasenor has been leading the vineyard crew on this property, six days a week, year round for 25 harvests. His unparalleled knowledge of every inch of this vineyard nurtures the intensity and complexity of flavor inside each berry. He knows each and every vine and slope intimately.
